Quick answer: To change your skin in Minecraft Bedrock, open the Dressing Room, go to the Classic Skins tab, open Owned, press Import and choose New Skin. Pick your 64×64 PNG and choose Classic or Slim arms. This works on Windows, Android and iPhone/iPad; consoles can't import custom skin files.
Step by step
- Save the skin PNG. Download the skin to your PC or phone. On a phone, save it to Files or Photos so you can find it.
- Open the Dressing Room. Start Minecraft Bedrock and press Dressing Room on the main screen.
- Go to Classic Skins. Open Edit Character if you see it, then choose the Classic Skins tab (the clothes hanger).
- Import the skin. Under Owned, press Import, then Choose New Skin and pick your PNG.
- Pick the arm model. Choose Classic (wide arms) or Slim arms to match the skin, then confirm.
- Play. Your skin is equipped. Join a world to see it in-game.
Which devices can import a custom skin?
| Device | Import a PNG skin? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | Yes | Dressing Room → Classic Skins → Owned → Import → Choose New Skin |
| Android phones and tablets | Yes | Save the PNG to your files first, then the same Dressing Room steps |
| iPhone and iPad | Yes | Save the PNG to Files or Photos first, then the same steps |
| Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch | No | Use Character Creator items or Marketplace skin packs |
Minecraft's help centre says there are no plans for importing custom skins on consoles, while Windows and mobile keep the Import option.
Classic Skins vs Character Creator
The Dressing Room has two kinds of looks. Character Creator builds a character from items (hair, clothes, accessories), some free and some from the Marketplace. Classic Skins are the traditional flat 64×64 skin files, and this is the only place where your own PNG can go. If Minecraft asks you to choose between the two, choose Classic Skin.
Skin looks like Steve or Alex to others?
- In worlds you own, open the settings and look at Only Allow Trusted Skins. When it is on, custom skins may be replaced for other players.
- Servers and Realms can have their own skin rules.
- Make sure you picked the correct arm model (Classic or Slim) when importing, or the arms show odd pixels. See slim vs classic arms.
Want several skins as one pack?
Bedrock also supports skin packs: a folder with a manifest.json, a skins.json list, a language file and the PNG skins, zipped and renamed to .mcpack. Opening the .mcpack imports it, and the skins appear in the Dressing Room. Microsoft's creator docs explain every file (see sources below). For one or two skins, the Import button above is much simpler.
Get a skin to import
Pick one from the skin gallery, describe a new one to the AI skin generator, or paint your own in the skin editor. All three give you a standard 64×64 PNG that Bedrock accepts.
