Quick answer: To change your skin in Minecraft, get a 64×64 PNG skin, then upload it where your edition expects it. In Java Edition, use the Minecraft Launcher's Skins tab (New Skin, Browse, Save & Use). In Bedrock on Windows, Android or iPhone, open the Dressing Room, Classic Skins, Owned, Import. Consoles cannot import skin files.

- Get a skin PNG. Pick one from the skin gallery, make one with the AI generator or paint one in the editor. It must be a 64×64 PNG.

How do I change my skin on PC?
On a PC, first check which Minecraft you open. If you start it from the Minecraft Launcher and choose Minecraft: Java Edition, use the Launcher's Skins tab: New Skin, pick Wide (classic) or Slim, Browse to your PNG, Save & Use. If you play the Windows version that shares worlds with phones and consoles, that is Bedrock: use the Dressing Room instead.
What file does Minecraft need?
A skin is a PNG image of 64×64 pixels in the Minecraft skin layout (old 64×32 skins also work, and Bedrock accepts 128×128). A photo or a JPG will not work. Every skin from our gallery, the AI skin generator and the skin editor is already the right kind of file. Want to paint one from scratch? Start from a free skin template.
Classic or slim arms?
Both editions ask you to pick an arm model when you upload. Classic (also called Wide) has 4-pixel arms like Steve; Slim has 3-pixel arms like Alex. Choose the one the skin was drawn for, or the arms show a stripe of wrong pixels. Read slim vs classic arms if you are not sure.
My new skin is not showing
- Java: rejoin the world or server, or restart the game. Some servers turn custom skins off.
- Bedrock: worlds with Only Allow Trusted Skins turned on may show you as a default skin to other players.
- Check that the file really is a 64×64 PNG and not a renamed JPG.
